Isn't Masters Swimming just for highly advanced swimmers?

Don't let the "Masters" name fool you! A better name would probably just be "18 and Over Swimming". Masters swimming is for anyone aged 18 and upwards and we have members of all ages and fitness levels. In swim meets results are determined in age groups starting from 18-24, 25-29, 30-34 and so on, all the way up to 100+.

Why swim with a Masters Swimming club?

Masters Swimming clubs provide squad sessions with coaching*. We can help you improve your fitness and swimming skills. Training with a group also encourages you to work harder than you would by yourself. Membership in a club affiliated with Masters Swimming QLD allows you to compete at events throughout the state for fun and to motivate yourself to strive harder.

*coaching is provided through Belgravia Leisure's SwimFit program

Do I need to be a good swimmer to swim in a squad?

No! Our squad training* caters to all abilities and speeds and can help you improve your technique or breathing.

*coaching is provided through Belgravia Leisure's SwimFit program

What equipment do I need?

To get started all you really need are togs and a pair of goggles. If available a pair of small swim fins is useful. Other devices such as kickboards, pull bouys, paddles and bands are often used, but aren't essential to start with.

What is the SwimFit program?

Redcliffe Peninsula Masters Swimming Club takes advantage of the SwimFit program run by Belgravia Leisure. SwimFit is a swimming coaching program that runs on Monday and Thursday evenings at the Redcliffe War Memorial Pool. Monday's sessions focus on skills and speed development, whereas Thursday's sessions are designed to improve fitness and endurance.

Do I have to be a member of the club to participate in SwimFit?

No. You can participate in SwimFit without being a member of our club. However, club membership enables you to participate in Masters Swimming Queensland swim meets, and we also run a number of social events throughout the year. These include BBQs, Christmas Parties, Open Water Swims, etc.
